ABS, leading classification society and aiming to expand its activities in Greece, as part of its commitment to provide quick response and quality services to our clients, is seeking naval architects and marine engineers to work in its Hellenic-Piraeus Engineering Department, starting with a contract of nine (9) months (expected starting date is 5th of November or 3rd of December 2024). In addition to sound naval architecture and marine engineering academic background, candidates with experience on current and emerging regulatory developments related to emissions verification (IMO DCS, EU MRV, EU ETS and Fuel EU) will be preferred. Fluency in English, understanding of class societies Rules and International Maritime Regulations will be a must for the position.
What You Will Do:
- Under the supervision of an experienced engineer or engineering manager, performs detailed engineering review of plans as assigned for compliance with applicable Rules, Regulations, and contract commitments.
- Performs work that involves conventional engineering practices but may include moderately complex problems such as resolving conflicting design requirements, material standards, or coordinating activities among other disciplines.
- Drafts technically accurate and timely reports and responses to client letters, faxes, and other forms of communication for review by an experienced engineer or engineering manager.
- Prepares accurate and timely weekly reports and billing on all work performed.
- Communicates the status of the current workload to all appropriate team members to ensure the client’s needs will be met.
- May propose technical advice to field operations and other technical offices.
- May propose new approaches to problems encountered and recommend changes in methods, procedures, or designs.
- May work directly with clients to identify and resolve problems with technical expertise.
- Works as a team member within the group. May work autonomously, once trained, with minimal supervision.
- Implements and maintains ABS Quality System requirements relative to responsibilities after undergoing ABS Quality System training.
What You Will Need:
Education and Experience
- B.S. degree in Civil, Structural Engineering, Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, or other related disciplines; an M.S. may be preferred.
- Prior related engineering experience in a shipyard, design/consulting office, shipping/oil company, or classification society.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Seagoing engineering license or professional/chartered engineer license and four (4) years or more of related engineering experience in a shipyard, design/consulting office, shipping/oil company, or classification society.
- Knowledge of related technical disciplines required.
- The ability to identify, analyze and propose solutions to problems (i.e., the competence to demonstrate complex problem-solving skills).
- Good command of the English language.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
- Ability to work well with others.
- Ability to learn the ABS Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental Management Systems.
